Wild Harvesting Sea Kayak Multi-Day Trips

3-Days, COED, Ages 13-99

“When the tide is out, the table is set.” --Tlingit proverb.

COME FEAST ON FLOTSAM! Our two wildharvest trips are in synch with extra low tides. Join renowned ethnobotanists, wildharvest-chefs, and kayakers on a fun and educational foray into the watery world and intertidal zone. This trip is a sea kayak adventure, AND an adventure for your taste buds! Discover how to identify and ecologically harvest a dozen edible seaweeds and numerous marine creatures that native people have survived on for millennia.

Roll up your sleeves, for hands-on harvesting and cooking. By day, we’ll do sea kayak-based wildharvesting and land-based ethnobotanical walks by day. Late afternoon, we’ll divide into teams to cook 5-star Kelp Chowder, Horn-tootin’ Kelp Pickles, Wildharvest Ginger Stir-fry, Fresh Sea Salad, Chocolate Ocean Pudding Pie, Nori rolls, sea urchin and sea cucumber—providing we find them!

Harvesters, make sure you purchase (ahead of time), a Shellfish/Seaweed License ($14) from any local sporting goods store or marina before you come! GET A COPY OF FREE 2007 REGULATIONS, too. You can’t harvest without a license.

If you are new to paddling—you will learn basic kayaking skills. If you are an experienced salt, enjoy a review.
